Goodyear P225/60VR15 Eagle GT “Gatorback”

The Goodyear P225/60VR15 Eagle GT, famously known as the “Gatorback”, is one of the most iconic high-performance tires of the 1980s. Originally developed for sports and muscle cars demanding maximum grip and precise handling, the Gatorback featured an aggressive, directional tread pattern that resembled alligator skin—earning it its legendary nickname.

With V-rated performance (certified up to 149 mph) and a radial construction, this tire became standard or optional equipment on some of the era’s most powerful cars, delivering cutting-edge dry and wet traction for spirited driving. The P225/60VR15 sizing was widely used on factory 15-inch aluminum or alloy wheels, offering a low-profile look with enhanced cornering capability.

Key Features:

  • Size: P225/60VR15

  • Construction: Steel-belted radial with V-speed rating

  • Tread: Aggressive directional “Gatorback” pattern for superior grip and water evacuation

  • Design: Manufactured using the Goodyear original molds, ensuring a period-correct sidewall and tread.

  • Performance: Designed for high-speed stability, crisp handling, and sharp response

  • Application: OE or popular upgrade on 1980s performance cars including Chevrolet Corvette, Camaro IROC-Z, Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, and Buick Grand National

  • Proudly made in the USA

Whether you’re restoring a classic ’80s performance icon or building a vintage-inspired street machine, the Goodyear Eagle Gatorback P225/60VR15 delivers authentic performance, aggressive looks, and an unmistakable motorsport heritage.

Tire Cleaning & Maintenance
For tire cleaning, we recommend using an SOS pad along with soap and water. This method works for routine cleaning and effectively removes the protective blue layer from white walls and raised white letters on your new tires.

DO NOT use any chemicals to clean your tires; this can cause the tire’s white walls and raised white letters to turn brown. If you use chemicals to clean your tires and your white walls turn brown, you can not make a warranty claim.

Goodyear Polyglas tires were first used and going forward in April of 1969. For Goodyear RWL fitments for vehicle build dates beginning in April 1969 through October 1969, use Goodyear Polyglas SKU# CB5KL. November through December of 1969, a running change was in place with Goodyear Polyglas installations. Thus either the CB5KL or CB5KJ may be used. As you can see, this encompasses the first half of the 1970 build year. Prior usage from 1967 through March of 1969 was the Goodyear Speedway Wide Tread series.
